China vigorously promotes nuclear power generation

According to previous sources, China currently has 24 nuclear reactors under construction with a capacity of 25.4 million kilowatts, and plans to increase its share of nuclear power in total installed power capacity from less than 2% to 4% by 2020. Perhaps, China's vigorous promotion of nuclear power will lead the global nuclear power industry out of the trough.

The use of nuclear energy is not as vigorous as people think. Only 30 countries have adopted nuclear energy in more than 200 countries in the world. As of July 2010, a total of 439 nuclear power plants have been put into operation worldwide, with a net installed capacity of 373.038 GW (1 GW equals 1 GW). From a global perspective, nuclear power provides only 14% of the total electricity supply (2008 data), which is lower than the 18% in 1998. Nuclear energy can only be regarded as a small part of energy diversity, and its share has not risen.

According to the World Nuclear Energy Organization, 17 new reactors should have been put into operation between 2007 and 2009. It is known that only five of them will eventually generate electricity (three in 2007 and two in 2009). In addition, there are four reactors that were decommissioned in 2009, and a considerable number of reactors in Japan and Germany are idle for various technical reasons. According to estimates by the European Atomic Energy Agency, the European Union (currently accounting for one-third of the world's nuclear power generation) is likely to reduce its nuclear power generation by 20% in the next decade. With the use of shrinking globally, China is accelerating the process of the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
