According to the "Wall Street Journal" report, NASA is expected to display its concept of electric aircraft on Friday. Informed sources said that this all-electric aircraft will be named "X-57", is expected to be the earliest as early as next year. The X-57 will be the latest product of NASA's "X-Planes" program. NASA launched the "X-Planes" program in 1947, which specializes in manufacturing various testing machines for aviation research.
Informed sources said that NASA director Charles Bolden will release this new-generation X-Planes design "X-57" on Friday. At present, NASA has not commented on this.
At present, some large industrial giants, NASA, and some innovative airlines around the world are developing commercially available electric aircraft, hoping to launch a "Tesla flying in the sky."
In addition to NASA, other industry giants are also developing electric aircraft. Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturing and R&D company, announced in April this year that it has reached a cooperation agreement with industry giant Siemens. Both parties will jointly develop a hybrid electric propulsion system and hope to launch a small electric aircraft by 2030.
Airbus CEO Tom Enders said: "We believe that passenger aircraft under 100 in 2030 will be equipped with a hybrid electric propulsion system."
In addition, the European Space Agency (ESA) is also working with a company called “Lilium†to develop such a product, which combines the advantages of helicopters and civil aircraft, and plans to carry out manned tests next year.
