According to foreign media TechCrunch, two former Leap Motion employees believe they have solved the long-term problem of password and identity management. The two former Leap Motion employees founded Redrock Biometrics, a company whose technology is declaring war on the world's vast array of identification technologies, PIN codes, passwords, and voice recognition technologies. The new recognition technology combines off-the-shelf hardware and proprietary software to identify the palm print to verify user identity.
Lenny Kontsevich, chairman of Redrock Biometrics, said that the company has seen widespread use of authentication in virtual worlds, physical security, and cash withdrawals. He said: "You can think of your palm as a very large fingerprint. Its structure is very rich and any camera can capture it."
After Kontsevich cooperated with the startup company Kaching, graduates of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology came to the lab to demonstrate (using only existing database technology) software algorithms matching between palmprint and their unique signatures, which will become Redrock. The problem is how to capture images and process them from the background. This is what Kontsevich's colleague Hua Yang of Leap Motion has to do. The two people left Leap Motion in 2015 and established Redrock Biometrics. Kontsevich said: "There is currently no other commercial palm biometric technology that can use RGB cameras."
According to a statement, Redrock Biometrics' technology converts a palm image into a unique signature and validates the user for 10 to 100 milliseconds based on the speed of the CPU. The technology uses machine vision technology to detect the palm and register or verify it with its descriptors.
This technology can be run on the client or server and matches authentication requests against registration templates using proprietary algorithms that have been tested on thousands of palms. Konsevich said that the palm scan technology he developed does not require special equipment, and it is more secure than other scanning technologies.
