With the support of the key research and development project of the Ministry of Science and Technology "South China Hydrothermal Uranium Base Deep Exploration Technology Demonstration", a major prospecting breakthrough was made in the deep part of the Yangtze River No. 1 borehole in Zhuguang area of Nanling, Guangdong. Li Ziying, the project leader and dean of the Beijing Institute of Geology of Nuclear Industry, told reporters on the 22nd that the team found 8 layers of industrial grade uranium sections at a depth of 95-1550 meters, especially at 1550 meters. The industrial uranium mineralization in my country has laid a solid foundation for opening up new prospecting space.
In the past, uranium prospecting was mainly limited to the first prospecting space below 300-500 meters. With the deepening of work, the current prospecting focus has shifted to the second prospecting space at a depth of 500-1500 meters.
According to the ore-bearing host rock, there are four main types of uranium resources in my country, namely, granite type, volcanic type, carbon-silica mudstone type and sandstone type. The first two are hydrothermal uranium deposits. In the early 1990s, the work of my country's uranium geological prospecting center was transferred to in-situ leachable sandstone-type uranium deposits in the north, and the exploration and research work of hydrothermal uranium deposits almost stalled.
Li Ziying told reporters that deep drilling is a verification method of mineralization theory and prediction technology and model. The two complement each other and can provide a basis for opening up a deeper prospecting space and improve the depth and accuracy of detection technology. After a comprehensive study of metallogenic conditions, metallogenic prediction, and drilling site selection, the research team carried out theoretical innovations in uranium metallogenesis and a series of deep explorations in Zhuguang area of Nanling, and predicted multiple metallogenic prospects. After comparison, selection and demonstration, the researchers determined the Yangtze River No. 1 drilling site. The deep drill has a design hole depth of 1500 meters and a final hole depth of 1709.34 meters. Drilling results showed that the thickness of a single ore body at a depth of 950 meters reached 14.5 meters, and multiple sections of uranium mineralization were found at depths such as 1560 meters, 1606 meters, and 1696 meters, indicating that there is still mineralization potential in the deeper part.
