15 Cement Companies Receive Low-carbon Product Certifications

15 Cement Companies Receive Low-carbon Product Certifications A few days ago, the Environmental Protection Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection held a press conference on the implementation of the "Technical Requirements for Cement for Environmental Labelling Products" (HJ2519-2012) and the first batch of demonstration enterprises for the certification of Chinese environmental labeling low-carbon cement products certification.

Among the 15 cement companies that received the first batch of low-carbon cement certifications for China's environmental labeling products, including Conch, China Building Materials, Sinoma, Jidong, Lafarge and other giants.

It is reported that the cement industry is a basic raw material industry and is also a major emitter of carbon dioxide. In 2011, China's cement production was about 2.08 billion tons. The theoretical analysis shows that according to the current level of the cement industry, the production of 1 ton of cement clinker discharges approximately 940 kg of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide emitted by the cement industry accounts for about 20% of the total carbon dioxide emissions of China's industrial production, and the cement industry is facing tremendous pressure for carbon dioxide emission reduction.

According to Xin Zhiwei, deputy director of the Environment Development Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, if the environmental labeling product certification is fully implemented in the cement industry, and the environmental labelling products account for 30% of the total amount, it can reduce emissions by at least 20.7 million tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The first batch of 15 cement enterprise certifications have the role of industry guidance and demonstration. Through product certification, they can facilitate consumers to purchase green products. They can guide enterprises to consciously adjust their industrial structure, adopt cleaner production processes, and produce low-carbon products that are beneficial to the environment.
