Frankfurt, June 2011 – Protective gloves are an indispensable and essential part of daily operations in many industries. In the clean room, testing laboratory, food industry, chemical industry, hair salons and other places, protective gloves are everywhere. Bayer MaterialScience exhibited the Impranil® series of polyurethane dispersions at the recent TechTextil 2011 2011 in Frankfurt. These dispersions can be used as a substrate coating for textiles lined with gloves. The application is quick and easy. The protective gloves made of this material do not contain plasticizers and allergenic proteins, and are tough, wear-resistant and comfortable to wear.
"The tack on the glove surface can be precisely adjusted by using different polyurethane dispersions and formulas to form a sticky to dry and flexible glove surface," said Rolf Irichich, Bayer MaterialScience fabric coating specialist. In addition, this polyurethane dispersion can also be used directly for the production of disposable gloves. Impranil® XP2772 gloves are very well tolerant to alcohol-containing detergents and solvents.
Polyurethane dispersions can be made into gloves using conventional molds and dipping processes. "In the manufacture of gloves, the processing temperature of polyurethane dispersions is lower than the processing temperature of conventional materials such as latex and nitrile," Irnich added.
If used in the production of textile gloves, gloves should first be immersed in the coagulant and dried at 100 °C for about 3 minutes. Then it is immersed in an aqueous polyurethane slurry, dried for 5 minutes, then soaked at room temperature for 10 minutes, and then dried at a high temperature of 100° C. to be processed into an odor-free elastic protective coating.
