May 18, 2016 – Waters Corporation today unveiled the new Xevo® TQ-XS mass spectrometer, the most sensitive benchtop quadrupole mass spectrometer on the market. Featuring a new StepWaveTM XS off-axis ion source technology, this mass spectrometer uniquely combines ion optics, detection technology and ionization technology to deliver unprecedented levels of sensitivity. The Xevo TQ-XS is expected to be available in June this year and will be unveiled for the first time at the Mass Spectrometry Society (MSSJ) conference in Osaka, Japan from May 18th to 20th, and will also be unveiled from June 5th to 9th. American Mass Spectrometry Conference (ASMS) in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
“Using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) for quantitative research is becoming more and more important, and it has become a factor that scientists must consider when making every decision. Today's customers need to implement heavy weight. Current quantitative research, and hope to achieve lower lower limit of quantitation with any user-operable instrument. When designing this new mass spectrometer, our product designers pioneered a series of electronic and mechanical technologies." Gary Harland, senior director of product management at Waters Mass Spectrometry, said, "They have developed this analytical tool with a comprehensive understanding of the physical structure of the instrument to improve the reliability, reproducibility and performance of quantitative mass spectrometry. Brand new height."
The performance enhancements of this product rely on a number of advanced technologies. The new StepWave XS off-axis ion source technology is equipped with a segmented quadrupole transmission optics in the second quadrupole that effectively removes neutral species and transmits ions to the detector with a stronger focused ion beam. With this technology, the signal-to-noise ratio is 2 to 10 times better than the previous StepWave technology, and excellent stability is maintained even after thousands of injections. The system's sophisticated design makes it easy to quantify difficult trace compounds, even if these compounds are very unstable or inefficient, the analysis is unaffected.
Waters also introduced a new atmospheric piezo-isolator that can be maintained without tools, greatly improving the user experience. With these technologies, scientists can perform routine maintenance operations in less than two minutes, which means that the results from different operators will be more reproducible and more time will be available for sample analysis.
The Xevo TQ-XS is also equipped with an XDR detector. The XDR detector first appeared on the Xevo TQ-S micro, a photomultiplier tube detection system that quantifies sample compounds over a range of concentrations covering six orders of magnitude. Scientists no longer need to dilute and re-inject samples to keep the concentration of the compound within the limited dynamic range of the instrument used.
UniSprayTM is a new, patented ionization source on the Xevo TQ-XS that ionizes a wide range of analytes with a single chromatographic run. It effectively improves the response of a wide range of compounds with a wider range of polarities, and improves signal-to-noise ratio, allowing users to integrate several analytical methods into one method or to eliminate the need to change ion sources when analyzing different samples. Significantly reduced analysis time and increased lab productivity.
The Xevo TQ-XS system is a new addition to the Xevo mass spectrometer family, which includes the Xevo TQD, Xevo TQ-S micro and Xevo G2-XS QTof. The Xevo series of mass spectrometers are known for their versatile ion source structure: interchangeable ion sources can be mounted to or removed from the instrument in just a few minutes without first draining the gas from the system. For analytical chemists who lack experience in operating mass spectrometry in high-throughput laboratories, this changes the way they work and helps ensure that they use the instrument with optimal performance.
Waters will present the Xevo TQ-XS system at the American Mass Spectrometry Annual Meeting (ASMS) (Brands Hall B and Hall C, Grand Hyatt, Texas, USA) as a Saturday, June 4th in Germany The focus of several presentations at the Waters Mass Spectrometry User Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
