Security management company's management direction

There is more than one way to become a leader in security companies. Unlike academics who need years of research, there are few directly related degree restrictions in the security field. Mainly rely on experience, whether in the industry or technology development.

Idteck CEO Grace Kang started his career as a nurse and began importing RFID cards 22 years ago. General manager Austin Park said, “At the time, no one in South Korea knew how to make these cards. About 10 years later, she began to develop her own products.”

Kang combines the essence of her project with Mike Yoo (now the VP of R&D for Idteck), a South Korean defense engineer RF specialist. Park said, “With her experience, she has been one of the best system integrators because of the many brands and types of products she has handled. Her experience in sales, development and planning made her learn everything.”

Although there seems to be little commonality between the nurses of the former and the defense engineers of the latter, seeking common ground while reserving differences can make an enterprise more dynamic. Security giant Bosch Security Co., Ltd. is composed of experienced employees with different backgrounds. Gert van Iperen, chairman of Idteck’s board of directors, said, “They have all gained a lot of experience in the security industry – it is very important to make them successful in the market.”

The Assa Abloy Group is operated by a team with clear goals. According to Tzachi Wiesenfeld, executive vice president and head of EMEA, “Assa Abloy Group set a clear goal at the beginning of its establishment: to be the world’s leading supplier of the most successful and innovative total access control solutions. This clearly defines the management team’s direction."

The Intransa company, headquartered in Silicon Valley, is motivated by its desire to develop space for itself. Bud Broomhead, who took over the company’s chief executive in 2007, said, “Innovec started as a storage company. At the time, one of the company’s problems was that there was no solution for specific types of customers. We are now focused on physical security, not IT. It is a strict physical security environment. We often discuss with IT people how to integrate products into their networks, but we are not referring to e-mail or financial applications."
